Since Charles Gerhard patented the ice cube tray over half a century ago, the Gerhard name has been synonymous with the very best in culinary appliances. While you can thank Charles for keeping your drinks cold, the modern Gerhard’s Appliance stores have devoted themselves to better service in the name of better food. Whether you’re looking for a top-of-the-line grill for your July 4th barbeque or want to invest in a sleek double wall oven for Christmas dinner, Gerhard’s Appliances can help you out – and also give you some recipe tips.
We love great food, but we love passing around great recipes even more. Gerhard’s Appliances Cooking Corner is your quick stop for delicious and regularly updated recipes and culinary inspiration. From holiday feasts to weeknight 20-minute meals, we’ve got a range of recipes and tastes appetizingly covered.
But where did it all begin? After opening a record store in the 1950s, Charles Gerhard made it his personal mission to make the longed-for washers, dryers and electric ovens of the day available to the public at affordable prices. But unlike today’s chains of big box stores, Charles Gerhard was devoted to the promise of excellent customer service, in keeping with his motto, “Our services make these products that much better.”
Gerhard’s has carried on that tradition of customer service through five more stores and two more generations. In the words of Charles’ grandson Rich Gerhard, “It doesn’t matter if we are selling records out of a corner store or a Sub Zero out of our living kitchen, it’s the customer that matters, and it’s the service that we provide that makes us different from every big box store and competitor out there.”
The history of Gerhard’s Appliance is a history of family, and all family histories include memorable meals and favorite recipes, those passed down from generation to generation. Gerhard’s Appliances Cooking Corner is our opportunity to share these recipes with you – our extended family of loyal customers and readers.
From veggie alternatives to succulent pulled pork to homemade garlic bread, Gerhard’s Appliances Cooking Corner has the inside scoop and advice you need matched by the friendly and informative customer service that’s been our hallmark for half a century.
While much has changed in the years since Charles opened his record store and decided to begin carrying affordable home appliances, Gerhard’s philosophy hasn’t. What started in that Glenside, Pennsylvania, record store and spread through the greater Philadelphia and Tri-State area is an unparalleled commitment to customer satisfaction. The brands may change and the employees may increase, but Gerhard’s Appliances and our Cooking Corner are devoted to two fine arts: customer appreciation and building the best online recipe book we can. Make sure to check in regularly, and get cooking!
